Satellite Symposia Schedule
Sunday, June 1
Novo Nordisk
Symposium
08:30-10:30
Unmet Needs in the Management of Hemophilia Patients with Inhibitors
Unmet needs in the management of hemophilia patients with inhibitors will be addressed. Speakers will highlight aspects of improving the quality of life as well as the assessment of QoL of these inhibitor patients. Furthermore treatment options after ITT failure and current prophylactic treatments will be discussed
CSL
Symposium
11:30-13:30
Coagulation Factors – Molecular Attributes and Their Clinical Impact
Current factor concentrates enable safe and effective therapy for patients with coagulation disorders. Focus of modern biopharmaceutical research is to define characteristics of coagulation proteins and to further improve their molecular attributes. This symposium will discuss properties of VWF and will present new options for half-life prolongation of coagulation proteins.
Baxter
Symposium
11:30-13:30
The Future of von Willebrand Disease: The Clinical Potential of Advanced Therapeutics
Better characterization of the vWF molecule has contributed to the development of recombinant vWF devoid of FVIII. This program will address the pathophysiology and molecular basis of vWD, and examine current technologies and future strategies for the development of a safe and effective recombinant vWF through plasma-free technology.
Baxter
Symposium
14:30-16:30
Managing Hemophilia Across the Ages: A Lifetime of Patient Care
Optimal clinical outcomes are associated with prophylactic treatment in hemophilia A. This symposium will highlight current clinical issues in hemophilia management in patients at all stages of life, including inhibitor risk in PUPs, optimizing treatment strategies in children, adolescents and adults, and future developments for new therapies.
Monday, June 2
Grifols
Symposium
07:00-08:30
Von Willebrand Disease in the XXI century: Current approaches and new challenges
This symposium will discuss the latest findings in VWD molecular pathogenesis and the implications for the diagnosis and therapy of this disorder. Current trends in clinical management will be reviewed. Finally, clinical studies on prophylaxis treatment in VWD will be presented
Wyeth
Symposium
07:00-08:30
Recombinant products in hemophilia A management – assessing the evidence, considering the future
Managing hemophilia is a life-long commitment to patients. It is important that we continually strive to advance care and support patients. This symposium will examine hemophilia A treatment, steps to improve surveillance with marketed products, as well as novel programmes to assist patients recording therapy.
Scienta Symposium supported by Baxter
13:00-14:30
Optimizing Outcomes with Ideal Therapy for the Inhibitor Patient
Optimizing Outcomes with Ideal Therapy for the Inhibitor Patient: A CME symposium with Drs Alessandro Gringeri, Erik Berntorp, and Carmen Escuriola-Ettingshausen. The discussion will focus on the challenges posed by inhibitors and the clinical data linking improved outcomes with bypassing-agent prophylaxis and other innovative practices.
Bayer
Symposium
13:00-14:30
Overcoming Challenges in Hemophilia Care
The symposium will review the key challenges faced by physicians working in hemophilia, including the problems posed by inhibitors and the optimal use of prophylaxis. Exciting new data from Germany on prophylaxis in adults and on Bayer’s longer-acting FVIII products undergoing laboratory research and in clinical development will be reviewed.
LFB
Symposium
17:45-19:15
Von Willebrand Disease: A Factor VIII Deficiency?
Von Willebrand disease has been historically treated with factor VIII complexes. Even though effective, they are not exempted from side effects such as potential overexposure to FVIII in repeated administrations. A new pure Willebrand factor is presented. It controls endogenous FVIII without compromizing the ristocetin activity essential for primary haemostasis.
Tuesday, June 3
Octapharma
Symposium
07:00-08:30
Looking for Milestone Improvements in VWD Treatment - Tasks Defined and Resolved
The von Willebrand disease symposium will address the analytical issues of clinical monitoring of VWF:RCo levels, and explore topics of von Willebrand factor functionality under physiological flow conditions, management of peri-operative hemostasis in VWD patients with wilate®, and the concept of long term prophylaxis in VWD.
Wyeth
Symposium
13:00-14:30
Real People, Real Solutions: Clinical Cases in Hemophilia B
Managing patients presents us with challenges on a daily basis. These challenges include balancing hemostasis and safety with helping patients enjoy full and active lives, while dealing with everyday events. This symposium will use real people and solutions to examine treatment choices and practical issues facing people with hemophilia B.
Bayer
Symposium
13:00-14:30
Current Issues in Hemophilia Care: the Nurse’s Perspective
The symposium will review the role of the nurse in managing inhibitors and boosting adherence to prophylaxis regimens among children and teenage patients. Evidence of the benefits of prophylaxis will be discussed and there will be a review of the practical issues that nurses face when working with such patients.
Wednesday, June 4
Octapharma
Symposium
13:00-14:30
Von Willebrand Factor in FVIII Complex Concentrates: From Laboratory to Clinical Practice
This symposium will offer a balanced mix of data highlighting the impact of VWF on FVIII-inhibitor immunology and providing an opportunity for discussing recent successful interim data from the prospective post-marketing study in progress that support the use of VWF/FVIII concentrate for ITI in haemophilia A patients with poor prognosis.
Novo Nordisk
Symposium
13:00-14:30
Innovative Treatment Options for Hemophilia Patients with Inhibitors
An overview and future directions of innovative treatment options for haemophilia patients with inhibitors will be provided; this includes recommendations of the International Consensus Panel on ITI, rFVIIa single dose treatments and planning an elective orthopedic surgery. Moreover, acquired hemophilia and its treatment will be discussed.
